Collection Development Statement

Overview

Collecting efforts in the field of education primarily support the teaching and research activities of the Johns Hopkins School of Education (SOE). The SOE offers programs leading to the Master of Science in Education Policy, the Master of Science in Counseling, the Master of Education in the Health Professions, the Master of Education for Teaching Professionals, the Master of Science in Special Education, and the Master of Science in Education Policy. The Master of Science in Education is divided into Teach for America and International Teaching & Global Leadership. The SOE has a Doctor of Education (EdD), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).  As of Spring 2024, the SOE student body is approximately 1,250 students; over 1,000 are Masters level students with over 200 of those specializing in clinical mental health or school counseling. There are over 225 doctoral students. The SOE has more than 65 full-time faculty members as well as four post-doctoral researchers. Faculty members from other schools also have secondary appointments in the SOE. There are five Research Centers and Institutes affiliated with the SOE which are also supported.

There is a strong preference for online resources as most programs, other than the Counseling, ITGL and PhD programs, take place online.

  • DVD/streaming video (counseling)
  • Psychological tests – this includes the type of test or scale answered by subjects as well as more visual sets of information for subjects to react to. Requests have been received for decks of human faces and 2D representations of rooms.

Languages Collected

Material collected is primarily in English.

Chronological or geographical focus

Emphasis is on current and recent scholarship centered in the US but also a global education focus. Chinese focus for ITGL. Baltimore focus for research centers.
