The Graduate Board of The Johns Hopkins University requires that one
copy of a Ph.D. dissertation or Master's thesis be submitted to the
Sheridan Libraries' Commercial Binding Office (CBO). The copy must follow
the editorial and formatting instructions issued by the Graduate Board. The
copy is sent to ProQuest (formerly University Microfilms), which creates a
microfiche copy of the work. Next, the paper copy is sent to the Libraries'
commercial binder, which binds the leaves into a hardcover book. Finally,
the binder returns the volume to the Milton S. Eisenhower Library, which
catalogs it and adds it to University Archives' permanent collection. Each
essay and dissertation can be located in Horizon by searching for the
author's last name.

Many graduate students want to have extra copies of their thesis or dissertation
bound as personal copies or to be given to friends and colleagues. Students may
bring additional copies to the CBO to be sent for binding. Arrangements must be
made for these copies to be picked up in the Eisenhower Library or to be sent to
a JHU department. The CBO does not mail personal copies.
