Students with additional questions should feel free to contact Ellen Keith, Librarian for Sociology. Please note that the database links and many other links in this guide will require you to set up remote access if you are connecting from off-campus. You do not need to do anything if you are using a computer on campus. Doing a Literature Search I'm recommending the databases below for searching for scholarly articles on the topic of immigration.
For a broader, more general database try Academic Search Premier and for a newspaper database, try Lexis Nexis Academic:
Features of most of these databases:
Search Terms Think about the search terms that you're using and possible synonyms. In addition to your country of origin, e.g., Cuba, think also about the variation Cuban Americans. Use the OR feature to search for synonyms at the same time like "assimilation OR integration." Other useful search terms: migration, refugees, emigration. Searching in the Catalog When searching the library's catalog, please used the Advanced Search option, combining your search terms as you did in the databases, e.g., immigration AND Nigeria AND United States. Trends in International Migration/International Migration Outlook Containing valuable statistics on immigration, this title is published by OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and is available in the library on A-Level in Government Publications, Maps, and Law, call number I-OECD 130, and also online within Source OECD. Search for International Migration Outlook in the Search box, select the first link and then select the PDF link at the bottom of the record.
