ERIC provides full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1000 educational and education-related journals.

Historical information about Baltimore schools is contained in the records of the Board of School Commissioners (later called the Baltimore School Board). The Board’s responsibilities included administration of curricula, personnel, and buildings. The records of the Board are held at the Baltimore City Archives, located at 2165 Druid Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21211. To make an appointment to visit the archives, call 410-396-0306. Records include, but are not limited t

  • Minutes.  1836-1972.
  • Annual Reports. 1849-1981.

Note:  The Eisenhower Library owns many of volumes of the annual reports (Libraries Service Center: L 159 .B2 A2). For complete holdings and location information, check the JHU Libraries Catalog. In addition, the Enoch Pratt Free Library has volumes from 1829 – to the present (L 159 .B2 A23).

Annual Report Showing the Condition of the Public Schools of Maryland. 1860s - present.
A report delivered to the Governor that contains statistics for schools in Maryland counties and Baltimore City. Data includes financial statements, enrollments for public and private schools, cost per pupil, and more. The Eisenhower Library owns many of these volumes from 1871-1987 (LSC: L158 .B2). Information about the current Board of Education, including Minutes of the Board, some dated back to 2000. 
Minutes of the Maryland State Board of Education are available from 1947 - 1998 in the Enoch Pratt Free Library (L158.B17Q). These volumes are an exhaustive resource for those researching Maryland's educational system. Included in the minutes are budget allotments, resolutions with voting tallies, legislative updates, court opinions on issues involving the schools, personnel changes, and a summarized text of the president's discussion for each meeting.

The Maryland Department of the Enoch Pratt Free Library has been accepting yearbook donations for years. The collection is not complete and only partially cataloged. The yearbook web page lists the schools, yearbooks, and years that are in this collection. Check with the staff of the Maryland Department if you are looking for yearbooks that are not on the list.
