Preparations: located on the Main Level of the Eisenhower Library Preparations is responsible for making ready all additions to the Libraries' collections for shelving by library staff. This work consists of applying a property stamp, a label with the item's call number, and often a gift bookplate to each new collection item. Some new paper-covered materials (e.g., those with covers judged too flimsy, all reference volumes, and items predicted to be high-use) are strengthened against handling by reinforcing the cover attachment and adhering acid-free binder's board to the inside covers. (See stiffening). Students in Preparations assist with labeling and also tighten hinges in books whose textblocks have become loose in their cases through use.
